On Day 3 at the European Athletics U23 Championships Lithuania‘s athletes competed in the afternoon session. Women‘s Javelin Q: It was the last event in the morning session. Madara Palameika of Latvia won the qualification with 59.70. Viktorija Barvičiūtė of Lithuania with her best result in the season was 9th in her group (48.08) and placed 18th in the final classification. Women‘s Hammer Final: 14 athletes participated in the final. Lithuania‘s Vaida Kelečiūtė on her best attempt threw the implement to 49.50 and was 13th. Zalina Marghieva of Moldova clinched gold in the first round with 66.20. Men‘s 200m Final: Britain‘s Toby Sandeman collected gold clocking 20.37, which is the fastest ever time clocked at the stadiums of Lithuania. Women‘s 200m Final: In the medal hunt Aleksandra Fedoriva of Russia claimed gold (22.97), Ewelina Ptas and Marika Popowicz of Poland took silver and bronze. The Olympic champion confessed that hot weather made it a difficult run. Aleksandra added that she may participate in 4x400 relay where the main rivals will be Polish athletes as well as the Lithuania‘s quartette. Men‘s 800m Final: In a high quality race Poland‘s runners grabbed the top honours: Adam Ksczot took gold (1:45.81) and defending champion Marcin Lewandowski - silver with Germany‘s Robin Schembera in third position. Women‘s 800m Final: Eglė Balčiūnaitė of Lithuania finished 6th with her best season result clocking 2:02.26. In her opinion, she had chosen the wrong tactics – to be with leaders of the race. In the end, it was difficult for her to keep the pace. Natalya Kofanova crossed the line in 1:58.94 and claimed gold. Ukraine‘s Natalia Lupu became a siver medallist, Poland‘s Agnieszka Leszynska took bronze. Women‘s 400m Hurdles Final: Perri Shakes-Drayton(55.26) and Eilidth Child (55.32) of Britain took gold and silver. Russia‘s Darija Korabliova had to be content with bronze. Men‘s 400m Hurdles Final: Lloyds Gumbs snatched gold clocking 49.62. Ukraine‘s Stanislav Melnik took silver. Vincent Vanrycheghem came through for bronze. Men‘s Triple Jump Q: In group A Vytautas Raugas of Lithuania was 9th with 14.66m. In the final classification he placed 18th. The best result in qualification was shown by Daniele Greco of Italy (16.60). Women‘s High Jump Final: Aleksandra Shamsutdinova of Russia claimed gold clearing 1.89. Silver went to Germany‘s Melanie Bauschke. Women‘s Heptahlon Shot Put: Winner in the event was Latvia‘s Aiga Grabuste with 14.56 (831). She moved into first overall with 2799 points. Russia‘s Olga Kurban slipped onto second overall. Olga won the 200m clocking 24.57 (927) and after four events she increased her lead with 3714 points. Aiga is in the second position. Tomorrow the fight will go on. Russia‘s Nikolaj Sediuk came winner in Discus with 60.80m. Germany‘s Elisaveta Ryzik was first in Pole Vault (4.50m). In Men‘s 110 Hurdles Poland‘s Artur Noga snatched gold (13,47). In Men‘s Javelin gold went to Ari Mannio of Finland (84.57). Selim Bayrak of Turkey claimed gold in 10000m clocking 29:47.15. Women‘s 100m Hurdles final became a focus of attention in the evening session. Lithuania‘s Sonata Tamašauskaitė finished 5th with 13.36. Christina Vukicevic of Norway took gold (12.99). Silver went to Russia‘s Jekaterina Shtepa and bronze - to Alina Talai of Belarus. In Long Jump Q Lithuania‘s Lina Andrijauskaitė was 10th with 6.29 and qualified for the final while Eglė Kondrotaitė jumped 4.63m and placed 21st in the final classification. In Men‘s 4x400 Relay Lithuania‘s team (Artūras Kulnis, Valdas Valintėlis, Egidijus Švėgžda, Vitalijus Kozlovas) were 4th in the group (3:13.13) and finally placed 9th. Poland‘s quartette showed the best result clocking 3:07.13. In Women‘s 4x400 Relay Lithuania‘s Eglė Staišiūnaitė, Rita Balčiauskaitė, Eglė Balčiūnaitė and Agnė Orlauskaitė were 4th in the heat (3:40.68) and didn‘t qualify for the final staying in 9th position. Russian runners had the fastest time - 3:30.48.
