20km Men’s Walk Final opened Day 3 of the European Athletics U23 Championships. Three Lithuania’s athletes took part in the event. Only Valerijus Grinko finished the distance and was 15th (1:30.38). Tautvydas Žekas and Ričardas Rekstas didn’t finish the distance. Miguel Angel Lopez captured gold in 1:22.23.
A two-day women‘s marathon in Heptathlon was started today. In 100m hurdles Russia‘s Olga Kurban finished first clocking 13.63 (1031). Orsolya Voros of Hungary hit the hurdle and sustained injury. In High Jump Jana Maksimova from Belarus cleared 1.83 (1016) and was first in the event. After two events Olga Kurban of Russia moved into the lead (2009), followed by Latvia‘s Aiga Grabuste (1968) and Russia‘s Nadezhda Sergeyava (1951).
In Men‘s 200m Semifinal Lexio Platini of Germany placed first clocking 20.61. Estonia‘s Marek Niit finished third (20.88).
In Women‘s 200m Semifinal Johanna Danois of France qualified for the final with 23.14. Russia‘s Olympic champion Alexandra Fedoriva finished 5th (23.34), saying that it was an easy run for her and she could afford herself to relax. Norway’s Ezinne Okparaeobo after her defeat in 100m didn’t take part at the competition.
Yuryij Shajunov of Belarus was an outright favourite in Hammer Qualifications – 74.87m.
